This past weekend, :pMachine: released a brand new product into a public beta: :ExpressionEngine:. This is something I’ve been helping out with for months now and I’m really excited to see if finally released. That means I finally get to talk about it, too!
Like pMachine (Free or Pro) before it, ExpressionEngine (:EE:) is designed primarily as a weblogging tool. However, it’s far more powerful and flexible than pM due to the fact that it’s a completely new product from the ground up. Rick Ellis took everything he learned from doing pMachine Free and Pro and then applied it to making “the system that pMachine could have been”. One of the core concepts of EE is the idea of using Modules and Plugins to greatly expand the possibilities of the system. In fact, Modules are really the way in which EE’s capabilities will be expanded; most of the currently available features are simply Modules placed on top of the core EE backend.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the community receives EE, even if it’s currently only a public beta and a great many additions are already planned. Om Malik has an interview with Rick posted as well as some of his own thoughts on the new product. Blog Hosting News has a short entry up as well. I’ll update with more coverage as I find it.
Update:
Paul (of course) has an entry about the release on his site.
Yet More Mentions: (I’m trying to find mentions/comments from non-pMers)
BurningBird: Leatherwood Tech: Open, Share, Blog?
Teal Sunglasses: Movable Type alternatives…
wannabe: Expression Engine (Firda did the wonderful default install Templates for EE)
Triboluminescence: MoveableType Moveable?

Looks great! In fact I was going to try it out and then I saw the price! Don’t think it is worth it for a site that about 4 people read!
But way to go pMachine team! Just what the market needs…a well written, documented and supported CMS/blogging system!!
I can’t wait to see what people do with it!
