No More Excuses

Forget the hacker sites and IRC channels of developers trying to break open the intel Mac and make a dual-boot option into Windows XP.  Yes, they succeeded, yes you can follow their rigorous steps to make it work, and have semi-success, with many of your devices left incompatible.

Or, you can just let the gang at Cupertino, who must have shouted “Move over!” in Jimmy Fallon fashion, handle it and use Apple’s official Boot Camp dual boot for intel Macs, with device drivers.

You now have no excuses to delay The Switch.  I’m talking to you, Dvorak, who I’m sure sees this as his prophecy coming true that Macs will soon be running Windows.  I think by these phrases on Apple’s Boot Camp page, we can still be sure that this is nothing more than another tool that can be used to bring you stalwarts into the light.

EFI and BIOS
Macs use an ultra-modern industry standard technology called EFI to handle booting. Sadly, Windows XP, and even the upcoming Vista, are stuck in the 1980s with old-fashioned BIOS. But with Boot Camp, the Mac can operate smoothly in both centuries.

Word to the Wise
Windows running on a Mac is like Windows running on a PC. That means itll be subject to the same attacks that plague the Windows world. So be sure to keep it updated with the latest Microsoft Windows security fixes.

Well, this was out of left field. This will let me play games and open horribly codec applications that are windows only.

I guess the games would be the only thing i miss from windows.

I think this is definetly more a novelty than anything else. I own 3 PCs and 1 Mac mini. Personally I had to buy the Mac for development purposes and never would have otherwise( I am a programmer ). I have had it for about a year and I still cringe when I use it. That’s mostly because I know Windows inside and out. And although I have a good working knowledge of OSX, I just don’t care to use it very often. Having said that however I will say that BOOT CAMP will in no way get me to run Windows on my Mac mini. I bought the Mac because I had to, but I still bought it because it was a Mac. As in why would someone buy a Mac and then spend extra money to buy Windows? If anything I think it may help Apple just about as much as it can hurt. This now means that more Mac users will be exposed to Windows as well. You know those Mac users that started in grade school? People who never really made THE SWITCH.
