Verisign’s Hijacking Thwarted

Verisign, that most hated of companies, pulled another dirty trick earlier this week by releasing “Site Finder”.

Web surfers who mistype “.com” and “.net” Web addresses are redirected to the Site Finder service, which then offers a list of likely alternatives, some of which are paid-placement links.

Obviously, many, many people weren’t happy about this.  ISC, the company that publishes software used to run 80% of the world’s domain name servers, released a patch designed to block Verisign’s new “service”.  Good for them!!
